As an investor, I am frequently approached by entrepreneurs seeking capital. When Antje first approached me to invest in Eco-Bella in early 2005, I was impressed with her outstanding business plan complete with a legal advisory opinion, an accountant’s advisory opinion, market study, projected financials and passion and commitment for the company. After reviewing the plan and talking with Antje, I had the confidence to invest in her idea on the spot. From day one, Antje, the acting manager of the LLC, handled all lease negotiations, both international and national contract negotiations for sales and exclusivity, financials, accounting matters and tax matters. She managed employees, training them with the company policies and procedures that she had established. Insistent on providing her staff with full health coverage and keeping their time obligations fair, Antje earned the loyalty of her employees. Antje was also responsible for marketing and public relations. In the first 3 months, she started writing articles for Atlanta papers and magazines; and they got published. After a year, she was invited to speak at a national conference. Soon after that, the company started winning awards. By the third year, we had coverage on CNN and the Weather Channel. Approaching one of my companies, Verus Carbon Neutral, Antje jointly proposed creating the first carbon neutral retail district in the US. Together, we were able to convince 21 competing businesses and a commercial real estate developer to create this zone. It was a phenomenal success for both companies. I could talk more about the exceptional annual reports reflection attention to every detail, understanding of the issues and “out of the box” solutions to deal with those issues. In closing, this upstart grew steadily until the historic economic downturn in 2008. We closed the company in 2009, free from debt and other outstanding obligations.
